Are these 2 types of RAM compatible?

My G4 MDD has PC2100U
My G5 has PC2700U

Can I yank the RAM out of my G4 and stuff it in the G5, or will everything explode if I try?

Thanks in advance

The 2100 is too slow to be used effectively, besides, you have to use RAM sticks in pairs in the G5.

2100 = 133/266 and 2700 = 167/333, if I remember correctly.

damn, thought I could save some money 🙁

I thought the days of installing RAM in pairs was long gone...

Thanks for the help though.

Doubtful it will explode, but will probably just not work.

The worst case is that it'll actually work and corrupt you HD as the data in those memory sticks gets corrupted. Highly unlikely that it'll happen unless the SPD ROM is improperly burned (which happens.)

Somebody came by recently and was wondering why his computer stopped working when he used memory from his SDR Mac-clone in his SDR Mac. Likely the voltage difference killed the motherboard on newer machine, but I don't think he said "it exploded." 🙁

Well, we don't have QIMMs yet, so pairs it is.

Sorry I was being sarcastic again, in case you didn't realize. My sarcasm sometimes seems to be too realistic at times.

Thanks for the sounds advice though. I just got the G5 yesterday, and with only 256 it's really not living up to it's potential I think (though MAME runs whoop-ass 😀 )

I'll just get off my keister and buy some more RAM tomorrow (wish it was cheap again.)
