Check out Apple's website. Earlier today it was over 99 million songs sold but now the changed it to 97+ million. They want to make it harder to get that free powerbook. The winner will probably win within a few hours. Start buying songs and good luck.

http://www.apple.com/itunes/100million/

It says "99,338,105"

Apple's been doing that "97+ million" back and forth, though every time I check the site or my counter, I've only seen the exact number.

it seems as if they do it when it nears the millionth mark, probably so you cant cheat as easy

99,445,894 is pretty darn close to 100,000,000 and that's where we are at the moment.

We'll be on 100,000,000 in about 12 hours I believe. The numbers are going up rapidly once we reach the 99,800,000 because people start buying like crazy once they realize they're close to winning the grand price.

ps. why do I use the word "we"? I have no part on this...

I heard from a friend of a cousin of a pet of a repo man that once the iTunes Music Store hits 100 million Steve will announce G5 PowerBooks. That's the only thing that was holding production back. Steve was just sitting at his desk watching the counter go up. But once it hits 100 million he'll lose interest and update the Apple Store.

:)

(and I'm not even interested in a G5 PB!)

I'm on the East Coast - using EST here. Even if about 3000 to 35000 submissions go into the counter every update interval of 5 minutes, it'll be tonight that it happens, maybe somewhere between 20:00 and 23:00 (8pm and 11pm).

Could this promotion be hurting sales? When the counter is not near a milestone, it seems to slow down to a crawl. When it gets close, it will spike.

I am running out of songs that I want to buy for the end of this promotion. I think I have about 400 purchased songs from iTunes. A lot more than when I use to buy CDs.

Weird. I just checked apple and the counter said "99,000,000+" and thats it. But then I refreshed and it gave me the exact number. Almost there anyways.

100,014,607. They sold like 20,000 in the last five minutes. Ha! Now, how do I find out if I won. :p

Edit: Apple.com front page graphic updated. Seemingly no automatic introduction of new ipods as some predicted. Of course, they may still be intro'd in the next few days.
