Granted the battery will probably only last 5 mins with all this power under the hood:D

Nah with the knew mac books pro batteries i would say it should last good four hours. Shouldn't be too bad, basic math im using is twice the energy needed so divide 7 into two and add about an hour because of the power management that intel introduced.

People are going to have to chose either between battery life and CPU power. I wonder if there's going to be a balance that all can live with?

Since laptops imply mobility, I'm thinking extended battery life will continue to win over raw processor muscle. That leaves these "brutes" to be bought by a select few with hardcore needs on the go - a niche market.

Just rambling. I'm usually wrong. :D

Hurray, the end of what I call battery life. Also, I thought the whole i7 stuff was to get rid of the FSB. But I see in the link to Dell's new studios there is a 1333MHz FSB.

45W TDP? Seriously....

Considering that Windows does NOT have

Grand Central Dispatch

It's quite a waste in PCs for most users.

If I understand it correctly, i7 gets rid of the memory controller off-chip, and moves it on to the CPU. I guess the FSB still denotes the frequency the RAM operates/sends information.

40% faster h.264 based video encoding in windows 2000 for me.

Totally not a waste.
