I heard about this one a recent episode of Fresh Air on NPR and I google to confirm. :)

I've always thought of Mr. Huckabee to probably be one of the more moderate visible Republicans out there and I still believe he is.

It scares me that this man represents the "best of" the Republican party.

"If the federal government is truly serious about doing something with the AIDS virus, we need to take steps that would isolate the carriers of this plague. It is difficult to understand the public policy towards AIDS. It is the first time in the history of civilization in which the carriers of a genuine plague have not been isolated from the general population, and in which this deadly disease for which there is no cure is being treated as a civil rights issue instead of the true health crisis it represents."

(Playing the devil's advocate just for fun here).... It would solve the problem, in theory.

Of course, for that to work, every person capable of sex would have to be tested multiple times over the space of a year. The expense would be astronomical.

Then, there are the silent carriers, those who will never die of Aids but have the virus.

Huckabee is clueless. Nobody isolated Syphilis victims and of course Tuberculosis victims aren't isolated anymore. It has nothing to do with prevention and everything to do with homophobia.

Sure, but in return you'd be behaving like the North Korean government.

To me at least that's an extreme price to pay.

Plus in reality as Ugg says. It wouldn't work like that.
