I am curious as to how many of the current (active*) membership lives in the state of Wisconsin. Perhaps we could just trade email addresses or AIM screenames. It would be nice to be able to talk to local MR members about software or hardware issues, no?

I (obviously) will go first.

My hometown is Racine, WI. But I spend most of my time in Stevens Point attending UW-Stevens Point.

Count me in. I'm over in Wausau. Just to give you a little info on my Mac situation, I've got the following:

G4 PowerBook 17" 1.33GHz
G4 Quicksilver
G4 Cube 450MHz

I own a bunch of Mac games, which I never really play - I just bought them for my trip down to Quakecon last year.

And the majority of the work I do on my PowerBook would be web development with Dreamweaver and Fireworks MX 2004.

Well, that's the technical stuff. How are you guys?

Our student government had our retreat in Lake Geneva...Nice area...Rich people live on lakes, I've discovered. ;)

Oh, and all you folks at UW-Madison. I really like your campus: A lot of interesting-looking buildings and wide open spaces. Madison seems like a nice town, too.

Oh, and the conservative newspaper and my school made fun of yours about 6-8 months back. A lot of people at Madison got their undies in a bunch and sent the paper lots of hate mail. The publication's actually really just a fringe pub that nobody takes TOO seriously. My friend, who's the EIC, is trying to change that, but anyway. Some of you guys took the jokes way too seriously. The paper was the Northwestern Chronicle, if anyone remembers that incident. I thought some of the letters were pretty funny. I especially liked one that said that Northwestern students were making fun of UW-Madison students because we were jealous of how awesome your school is since ours sucked so much. No offense, Madison's a good school, but NU's pretty damn good, too. ;)

its nice except for the people living in lake geneva. its a total tourist trap. most people who live there think, whats the big deal? its just a little town with a lake? I suppose you get used to things and take them for granted after awhile though.

Yeah, I didn't think it was anything that special. You guys do have a decent facility for medium-sized groups to hold retreats, though. We took this boat tour, though, and they pointed out all of the rich people's homes. I guess it was kind of interesting in that it highlighted my relative poverty. :D

I'd not only love to have more gamers, but I'd love it if they were Mac gamers... we run the entire LAN off of Macs, all the game servers, web servers, everything. It's something to see. Anyways, email me if you have any questions or visit the site. Our next event is July 31st, and I'd love to see you all there.

There's only one guy in Wausau with that hardware combo... and if he'd answer his phones once in a while, and quit harassing his techie, maybe he'd have time to play those games.... :)

I'm in Wausau as well... with a 12" Powerbook. More of a linux fan than a Mac fan, but the Powerbook is a beautiful machine, and it's ultraportable... a major plus at work where I'm lugging it around all day. And Fink and X11 give me access to most of the linux programs I'm used to....

i'm going to be moving back to madison (for good) once i find a job (right now i'm here looking...).

i've been there for four years at UW, went away for about six months, and just have to come back. there is NOTHING better than spending these summer evenings on the terrace with a pitcher of woodchuck playing cards with friends...

Here's one more Madisonian. I grew up in Oconomowoc, but currently attend the UW pursuing a genetics degree.

Per-chance I received an email from another MacRumors member who said he was moving to Madison for post-doctorate work. Has jbembe posted here?

Are you going there for Undergrad or Post-Grad? My girlfriend is attending UWSP with intentions on going to Madision for her graduate degree. She wants to be a Genetics counselor. Its a small world. :)

Yep, I've been reading MacRumors for a couple of years, but finally registered when I saw this thread. I'm an old-timer, having used a Mac since my Lisa (still have it!) in 1984 and helped found the Mad Mac User Group while going to school at UW-Madison. I've been making a living working on the Mac for 17 years, and have spent the last 11 years managing the mostly-all-Mac network for a moderate-sized commercial printing company in the Milwaukee area (I presently live in Waukesha).

I originally hail from near Sheboygan, went to school at UW-Eau Claire as well as Madison, and have also lived in the Chicago metro area and the Twin Cities, before relocating back here to the Milwaukee area 11 years ago (!).

I presently use a 17" PowerBook (first-gen) personally, and a new 1.5 GHz 17" at work (in addition to a cr*ppy Dell Latitude D800, which the 17 just kills, but that's a different story).

See you guys around (did I mention my license plates are "MAC WIZ" and one of my co-workers has "MAC OS X"?)

Don't know if I qualify.

Spent the first 18 years of my life growing up in the Villiage of Marthon City (official title), a small town about 12 miles west of Wausau (you can classify me as Wausau if you deem me worthy). Spent ~4 years in the UP for college with an 8 month break in MN for a Co-op job. Now I live in the Dallas, TX area. My wife won't let us move back (her family is down here) but I do visit 2-4 times a year and the only Mac I currently own makes it's home there (a 5+ year old Radius 81/110 clone). Soon I will be receiving my 15" PowerBook and 4G iPod to get myself more up to date and back on Mac.

I am indeed, why do you ask?

I am also a Graphic Design major. When I was applying for undergrad schools, Stout was one of my top 2 choices. Though, the year that I would have been an incoming freshman, was the first year of the "Laptop Learning Initiative" and they weren't able to give me a solid number for tuition and fees before the deadline for registration. Even though I had been accepted into the program, I felt that UW-Stevens Point had a lot more to offer for me.

I feel I've made the right choice. But how is the program there for you?

Muskie

Well, I'm only a freshman, so I haven't taken any GD classes yet, still in Design, Drawing, Art History, you know, the basic stuff. I must say that I do thoroughly enjoy it here though. And I plan on graduating from Stout. It's too bad you didn't get in on the laptop program. I've got my desktop here too, but having a laptop is great. And for the people without desktops I'm sure these things make life a ton easier.

It's too bad you didn't get in on the laptop program.

It's not that I didn't *get* to, it's that I didn't *want* to. It's significantly more expensive than UWSP. Cost was a major concern for me, and I simply couldn't afford that much more.

(Of course, I have feelings about the quality of the programs, but it's not the point) ;)

I wish you good luck in the program. UWSP's program is structured very similarly, so I know exactly what you're going through!

I'm nearly a life-long resident of Waukesha. I've got 4 years in Madison for undergrad, and would love to go back at some point. My parents are from Cudahy and my in-laws are Fox Valley people (currently in Green Bay). Not many areas in the State I haven't been to.

I live in Wauwatosa and except for a Commodore 64 in the early 80's have a nice collection of Macs and a couple of Apple II's.

I'm afraid I'll have to get the little asterisk after my name :( - I graduated in December and moved west to Chaska, MN. I suspect that I may eventually move back to Wisconsin, but should be in Minnesota for at least the next three years.
