Iphone Genius Bar Question

My Phone is having problems. When i put it in Standby it wont wake up sometimes the screen just goes blank. I can hard reboot it and it reboot and come back up. Or I can wait random amounts of time and it will sometimes come back other times it wont. I figure some hardware in the phone is giving out. So I decided to take it to the Genius Bar. Or any other ideas before I take it in. So I am wondering I know I shouldn't take in a Jailbroken phone, but is there anyway of upgrading the firmware but not the baseband.

you have to do a restore on the phone unjailbreak it f you take it to Apple and there is a hint of JB then they will either send you away and do nothing or note it on your account and your warrenty is void. restore it then give it a few days to build a history problem. if they ask why it's restored tell them you thought it might fix the problem. ;) g/l
