iPhone 3G - Stereo Earphones Remote Not Working

I have a semi-new iPhone 3G and the remote control isn't working to change songs, pause etc; I've tried checking for lint, is there anything else that may have stopped it working or should I just see about getting a replacement pair under warranty?

My right ear phone stopped working on my 3GS headphones. Are you going to take it in for repairs?

Has anyone gotten these exchanged before?

If it is still under warranty you can just walk in the apple store and exchange them. I did this a month or so ago no problem.
