Is a T-Mobile Sim Card Needed?

My 2G iPhone will be arriving at my house today. I have the following link saved to start the process of unlocking/jailbreaking...

My question is this. Do I need to go to a T-Mobile or Best Buy and buy the cheapest prepaid phone there, extract the sim card and insert it into the iPhone and then start the process of setting up the T-Mobile phone plan? Is that how it works. Thanks guys in advance for your help.

Yes, you need a T-Mobile sim card. So you will probably have to buy a cheap phone with the plan unless you can get them to sell you just the SIM with your plan at Tmobile, I've never tried.
