This is a pre airport express purchase question. Is airtunes software loaded on a computer, software in the airport express and is it included when you purchase an aiport express or is it software that is needed to be purchased seperately?

No there's no software you need to buy and no software to install in the AirPort Express. iTunes will simply send audio to the AirPort Express when you select it, after you properly configure the AirPort Express.

like the previous poster said, the only software you need is iTunes, so once you have the express and iTunes, you're good to go.
This only works with music that's playing in iTunes. If you play a video (in iTunes or elsewhere), the audio only comes out of the computer.

If you want to send audio other than what comes from iTunes, there is a program called airfoil (http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/). That will let you send audio from other programs, like pandora or last.fm in a web browser. You can also send audio to another computer (windows, mac or linux) in addition the the airport expresses.
it also comes with a video player, that will let you play videos in sync with audio.
This is an extra program and costs $25.
