Updating library after every sync?

I have a 1G 16GB touch that has recently been syncing in itunes faster (good!), but whenever I eject from itunes, unplug and go to use my touch, it always says that it is updating my library and it may take a few minutes. I understand this may have been necessary after doing a software update (it is fully updated), but why every time i sync? This cancels out the faster syncing with itunes.

Anyone else experiencing this?

I experienced that after the first few times that I sync'd, but at some point it stopped doing that. I'm not sure why it stopped (I didn't change anything that I'm aware of), I'm just glad it did.
