My friend who works at the apple store once told me that if apple finds out that you jailbroke/unlocked your iphone they can blacklist your phone and call police.

now my question is, if i restore the phone...will they still be able to tell it was once jailbroken/unlocked?

NOPE! However your friend is both right and wrong. They cant call the cops, thats just stupid. They can however instantly void your warranty (which is what JBing does.)

LITERALLY went today to the genius bar with a previously JBed phone (restored last night.)

No problems, they had nooooooo idea.

They can call the police until they are blue in the face, the police are not gonna respond. It is no crime to JB a phone. What would the crime be ????

Just like overclocking a PPC or computer or a dozen other things you can do to a computer or PPC. Not even close to illegal.

The worst they can do is cancel your warranty.

Besides, they have no control over your service provider. If AT&T cancelled service to all JB phones, they would loose millions $$$$$$.

Everything he told you is horse$h1t.

Not much of a friend, in my opinion.

Did he also tell you that jailbreaking your iphone allows you to commit denial of service attacks and take down AT&T's cell towers? Or that jailbroken phones are mostly used by drug dealers?

Those are my favorite false rumors about jailbreaking... :D

Yes, they can tell if you jailbroke at one point if you did a sloppy job at wipping the iPhone out. No, they can't call the police. Yes, they can blacklist your device.

Savy?

Put notes on your serial number that you once jailbroke.

Those dorks can't even blacklist the IMEI when your iPhone gets stolen; so now they're gonna' call the police and void your warranty without any evidence? I'm not holding my breath.....

Basically restore twice AND SET UP AS NEW PHONE to be extremely sure. I only restored once but they had no idea :).

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3GS (White, 32GB): Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A341 Safari/528.16)

I don't even bother restoring before I get a replacement anymore. I just disable any themes I've got running in WB and maybe move Cydia to page two or three. I've done this four times now at the same Apple Store and nobody seems to care.

Seriously, what are they gonna say? No? Ok, then my response would be 'go ahead and restore it yourself and see if THAT fixes my dead pixels/case cracks/etc.' Of course, if it got to that point, the above would be said in the most condescending, sarcastic voice possible. :D

Ahahaahahaha apparently 2 million iphone users are drug dealers!

We are drug dealers and aim to take down/over cell towers.

Never heard of a company being so foolishin their statements

If you jailbreak it doesn't void your warranty. If however, ATT, Best Buy, or Apple stores know you jailbroke they can void your warranty.

Operator: 911 emergency, what is your emergency?

Apple Genius: Hello, we have apprehended an iPhone jailbreaker here at the AppleStore! We need an officer here ASAP!! The perpetrator has installed Cydia, themes, backgrounder, and even his own ringtones!

Operator: Ohh myy Goodnesss, that is serious! I have a SWAT team en route, please stand by. Help is on the way!

Apple Genius: Thank you so much, he looks very dangerous. Who knows what other devious things he plans to do with the jailbroken phone if we let him escape!

Odds are because 4/5 apple employees probably have JBed phones.
