What's everyone think? I bought it, and I think it's smooth, but needs work. It's $2, though it's littered with ads, has no customizable home page (like AP), and the video stream is live from CNN.com but not live from CNN on TV. Like anything else, it needs improvements... It's nice to have built in iReport support though. Overall, it's headed in the right direction.

I have multiple DVRs to avoid commercials The last thing I want is more adds especially on my phone. Besides I can watch cable CNN on my iphone anytime I want. I will pass.

I think it looks nice, but I don't think it is worth $1.99

MAYBE $.99 and I stress "maybe"!

I think it should be free.

Because it is new and it is CNN. The rankings are based on a short period of time so it isn't that surprising.

What, pay to receive biased news from CNN, along with a ton of ads? No thanks, I will pass.

Who pays for news now?

No thanks. This isn't news, it's a promotion for CNN.

Same with iReport. Grab your 15 seconds of non-fame while CNN makes $$$ off the images and information.

I think it's a great app but my live streaming doesn't seem to be working this morning. It worked for a good portion of yesterday but when I opened the app this morning there is no "live" in red across my video tab. Is it just me? does anyone have the live free on their app right now?

I just bought this app specifically because it said live feeds. But I can't find them. Anybody?

Also, two questions re: "push"

Are the messages you receive counted against your text messages?
Does the app have to be running to get them?

live feeds are random so far they had a feed going on when the push update went out about the earthquake

Well I emailed CNN app support about the lack of live feed and I got this

"Live video does happen only at certain times in the day"

First that's not what the app said when I bought it, it says "Live feeds" not occasional Live feeds.

Second there's no schedule to this. The first day I bought it I had 4 or 5 hours of live straight feed. Yesterday I hardly had any. Additionally how is one to know when the live feed is going? I'm left to check it every 15 mins to see?

VERY unhappy

First off, to the person writing posts without proper punctuation. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to read a series of rambling words without the thought of a comma, period or question mark? Have you ever heard of a run-on sentence? Seriously, it's almost as if a kid wrote it. Way to alienate about 95% of this thread by calling them whining kids. Secondly, people have every right to complain about something they don't like about a particular app. Who are you to tell them what they should or shouldn't like? I for one will not be getting this app because of the negative reviews here and on iTunes. I'll stick with my Time Mobile app which was free and without adds. (See, CNN? It can be done.)

I like it. It's lame that it costs and has ads, but that's more of an annoyance in principle. Those complaining about the cost... it's $2. That's a cup of coffee... and not your fancy starbucks coffee, just good ol' dunkin' donuts. :D

And even if you don't like it, at least they've put some work in to it - it's not just a copy of the mobile site in app form (like bank of america, for instance).

I'm getting sick of the coffee price comparison. While, yes, some people spend more for a latte from Starbucks every single day - I don't - some of those people think about how they spend their money. When I worked every day I got coffee from Dunkin' Donuts every day but kept track of how that money impacted my spending in the future no matter how small the amount.

It's more that some people are just bitching about price and others are bitching about those bitching about price. To some people how their money is spent is important, even if only .99 or 2 dollars.

Update: The live feed went from 10am eastern to 4:20 pm

When no one on the East coast is watching. It's no secret people will use this during their commutes. Except if they can't. Bet AT&T had a hand in that.

I have to say that even though there are ads, I'm really happy wi the CNN app.

The free Time Mobile app is pretty good too btw.

Ok we pay and use it , therefore the ad's should be removable or blocked or a setting to control them.

Absolutely NO reason for paying for an APP and than having to see garbage SPAM advertisements in the application.

Make a Lite or Free version for the ad's

1. Live feeds aren't always available but, as said, they'll be noted on the video tab.

2. 3 Gun Restrictor? That's unconstitutional dammit! Seriously though, I don't know. I don't care too much about the difference in video quality and it's not worth waiting for it to load the Wifi versions.

3. I didn't set or see any push prefs but they're really not annoying at all. I've gotten around four in the last month. The last was about the Nobel Prize so it's not just random everyday crap to fill a quota. They might not want to do high volume pushes for cost purposes so they don't let you choose.

I bought this app back when it first came out last year. I ditched it because it's too cluttered and I get the same information via Twitter. I think they should have either gone with free/ads or $2/no ads.
