Just plugged in my iPod Classic (6th gen) and was surprised to find that new firmware had been released for it, sure enough, 2.0.3 adds support for Genius Mixes!

Woohoo Apple!

DISCLAIMER:

2.0.3 is only for the 160GB iPod classic from 2009.

All other iPod classic models do not support Genius Mixes.

unfortunately...

i can understand some of the older models it may be a bit harder, but i'm perplexed to why the first 80 gig classic is a no go... isn't it essentially the same machine, apart from the storage size??

Because then you wouldn't buy a new one. This is how it's always been, unfortunately.

Is there a workaround to update your older 160gb ipod classic to firmware 2.0.3? I really want this software with the genius mixes but don't want to pay for a new ipod. It seems that the hardware is essentially the same, isn't it?

this is cool. now if only they'd make audiobooks that aren't one entire track per book function at all... or i guess i'll have to wait a year and reupgrade again.

I don't think I will be buying any more iPods, until Apple realizes they need to be treated as an investment and NOT a disposable item
