Which to buy: 24" LED ACD or 30" HD ACD???

I am a photographer and filmmaker and need a good monitor with accurate colour display and high resolution. I am aware that the 30" is an old design, but im worried about the reflection from the 24".

Any advice or opinions are greatly appreciated!

Depends on your work environment. If you know are going to have lights on behind you (or windows for that matter), I would advise staying away from the glossy display.

77% more in real estate space should definitely help you getting over the 'old' design, which is still superior to all other displays on the market!

What kind of machine are you connecting to? A Mac Pro should do fine but if you're using anything with a MiniDisplayPort output you'll need a MDP > Dual Link DVI adapter (~$100) and I've heard of them not always working so well. So thats another thing to take into account.

Just to be the devil here but have you looked at other screens than apple? There are some very good screens out there besides Apple's 2 screens.

There is nothing like the 30" ACD. I wish I had one. I would hesitate because I can not believe they haven't updated it in so long.

30". more space and a matte screen.

I don't know how the 24" Cinema is, but I used a new 24" iMac before. the screen was way too bright and the colors were oversaturated.

He's referring to the area in pixels^2.

1920x1200 = 2304000
2560X1600 = 4096000

4096000/2304000= 1.777777

I acutally got a 30" ACD recently, but exchanged it for an LED ACD. So for a few days, I actually had both hooked up to my Mac Pro.

The 30" is a nice display, but it was a tad too large, and my screen had a slight issue with uniformity - the left side was warmer than the right. For $1799 one would expect perfection, but I suppose Apple has to draw the line somewhere. With over 4 million pixels, and such a large area to backlight, the chances of slight defects increases. The 30" is significantly brighter than the 24"; I could use the former at the lowest brightness setting under incandescent lights at home; the LED ACD is usually set around 50%.

The glare on the LED ACD was no where near as bad once I got it home - lighting in the Apple Stores is terrible for judging displays.

I had a 24" hp display, then I got the 30", and man it is one of the best things ever happened to me (I am sad). I would definitely rather have a 30" than two 24", if I ever get a Mac Pro, I may hook up another 20" along with the 30".

I think you will love the 30", but it really depends on you.

I would go for a 30". Not necessarily Apple. The 30" is just a great way to work. I use mine with a 23" on each side, and there is a huge difference in usable real estate.

If it were me, it would be a no brainer. 30" ACD.

I use a 23" ACD and I love it. My friend has a 30" and it makes mine look like, well, a 20". It is crazy how much space you have on it. If you have the cash for it, grab it. There are no glares on it. I have windows behind me, to the side of me, and I have no glares.

The only thing the new cinema display has that I wish my display has is the isight. Oh well, I can either grab an external or use my mbp as rare as I use that.

Does the 24" have firewire on it? I just went to look...looks like it doesn't. I would definately get the 30" now. I have both FW400 plugs occupied as we speak.

like the HP 2475, Nec 2490 or samsung XL24???
