Now there are so many advanced camera applications on the App Store, I can't decide which one I want.

Out of Snapture, Best Camera, Camera Genius, and ProCamera, which one do you think is best?

They all have different features, so it depends on what you want.

ProCamera and Camera Genius seem to be kinda similar. I don't know which one is best because I only have Camera Genius but they both seem to have the same features (zoom, guide lines, big shutter button...). Camera Genius is slightly cheaper and from my experience it works very well, I can't tell you if ProCamera is any better.

Best Camera is a completely different type of app: while ProCamera and Best Camera are both for shooting pics Best Camera is for editing them with its filters and sharing them. I like Best Camera a lot but, again, its main purpose is for editing and sharing pics.

I haven't used Snapture so I can't help you with that one.

Out of those i only have camera genius. Its quite good for 59p and has some ok features such as a zoom, timer and the ability to have it take a photo once it detects a noise. The latter is handy if your taking self portraits :p

I like camera genius but it takes forever to save an image, and it won't let me take one in the meanwhile.

I have all of them.

For FX i'll go with: TiltShift Generator
For camera control i'll go with: Camera Genius
For photo correction i'll go with: Perfectly Clear
For photo editing i'll go with: PhotoForge
For pano i'll go with: AutoStitch
For picture sharing i'll go with: Best Camera

That's what I can't stand about the native iPhone Camera app. ProCamera says it has "high-speed saving." Has anybody tried this app?

Do you have the 3G or the 3GS? Camera Genius has the same feature as ProCamera for high speed saving and it works really well, basically the picture saves in the background letting you take more pics. jmann has the 3G, maybe that feature doesn't work on the 3G because it needs more memory for the background saving.

Good point. I have a 3GS. I just bought Camera Genius. Thanks everybody!

If you want speed over quality... you will have to sacrifice the quality of the picture because "high-speed saving" means that the app doesn't do much to improve the image quality. It is better to wait a few seconds to let a good app do it's algorithmic work in order to have a good quality image instead of the quality of apple's camera app.

Fast app = Less code = Less feature

The problem isn't the taking the pic, is the saving part. And ProCamera and Camera Genius both have a feature where the picture saves in the background letting you take more pictures while it saves.

ProCamera doesn't seem to have tap to autofocus/expose. Am I incorrect?

Has anyone tried Snapture? I hear how great it is, but I can't tell from what I've read whether it offers anything different (or does stuff better) than Camera Genius.

What are you looking to do? Do you want presets to alter pictures or something where you can play with levels or such on your own?

I write iPhone app reviews for the Florida Times-Union newspaper's Web site. Earlier in the week, I started a review of 18 camera apps. I'll finish part 2 up for Sunday morning but you can read the first part here (http://jacksonville.com/interact/blog/rand_miranda/2009-09-27/miranda_writes_18_iphone_apps_for_mmsing_part_1). There are links to the apps and screenshots.

Do you have the 3G? I have the 3GS and Camera Genius saves the pictures in the background, letting me keep taking more pics. Maybe it doesn't let the 3G do that because of lack of memory.
