iMac (2006) - how many SATA connectors?

Hi,
does anybody know how many SATA connectors there are on 24" White iMac from 2006.?

if there is only one does anybody know if SATA port multiplier will work in this iMac?

Are you sure there is space inside any iMac for extra SATA devices?

I bought 2,5" intel SSD X25-M abd I think that it can be fit inside 24" white iMac (pretty sure) 🙂

beside that - intel SSD never get hot so cooling should not be the problem.

It would be great to have SSD for OS and application and another, e.g. 1TB drive for documents inside iMac 🙂

so only problem is if there is two SATA port (since White iMac use standard intel ICH7 chip that support two SATA) - I do not know if Apple leave physical two SATA connectors on board! (I have no time to open iMac again just to check this...)


if there is not - does anybody know if iMac would work with SATA port multiplier?

Interesting...I'm waiting my x25-m too...I will put it in a white 17" late 2006 C2D iMac....there's plenty of space in there for 2 2.5" drives....if there were 2 SATA ports I would put a Seagate Momentus 500gb beside the SSD...
 
Likely I would say 1 ... for Jan 06 machines

The chipset could handle much more, but Apple physically installed 1 SATA and 1 PATA connector.

Doesn't mean you cannot put in a SSD in place of the current drive and install a PATA HD in place of the optical.

so only solution is SATA port multiplayer or maybe replacing DVD... :/

you can always have external case for hard drive but than iMac is not so elegant as in first place 🙂 (because of this I would like somehow to put SSD and hard drive incise iMac case...)

btw SSD is SUPER stuff even for old 2006. iMacs - with SSD iMac is new machine 🙂
 
can confirm that i've added the capability of a 2nd sata port to my G5 ALS using a SATA caddy from here;

Confirmed it worked by installing a 60G 2.5 hdd. G5 mounts it and uses it as you would expect. Not particularly fast but i put that down to the drive itself.

If you put in an SSD then you might find that the IDE/PATA interface would be a bottleneck - max 133M iirc. Maybe you could install the SSD in the original drive slot with a 3.5 converter and have a 2.5 1TB media drive in the caddy?

I've not done any more with mine because i've decided to order the other caddy that interfaces to an IDE/PATA hard drive as well and will try to use some additional parts to get the IDE/PATA converted to 2x SATA interfaces - 1 as Master and the other as Slave.

If that works will just run some cables externally so i can have 3 SATA drives mounted on the iMac. If it doesn't will fall back to the original caddy and have 2 SATA drives.

That's perfect!

So for a late 2006 Intel C2D iMac (which has SATA HDD and PATA Optical Drive) I would need a caddy with:
- PATA on the outer side (on the back)
- SATA in the inner side (to connect a SATA HDD) ('cause I already have a 500gb 2.5" SATA hdd, so I want the inner connection to be SATA)

Is that OK?

Is that faster than using Firewire400?

Now the problem is getting the proper caddy here in Italy...

On eBay I only see SATA-SATA ore IDE-IDE caddies, not IDE(ext)-SATA(int) caddy 🙁

ATA133 should be faster than FireWire 800.
(FireWire 800 is theoretical 100MB/s and ATA133 133MB/s)

@ gianly1985 I have same problem; I need to order via ebay but I do not know which one :/

can you post link to the one that you find? Is it for 2,5" hard drive?
