View Full Version : GPU - Better Performance (non gaming)???

I was curious if anyone has experience with improved performance due to a better GPU (not games). The most intensive thing I do is encode blu ray rips to h.264. Currently I'm doing it with a GT120 would a GTX285 actually improve the speed of the encoding process?

In its current form, no, upgrading your video card won't do anything for video encoding. However, with OpenCL in SL, there is the possibility for people to start writing some wicked GPU accelerated transcoding/encoding programs for just such a task. Check this news post released a few weeks ago:
