Unfortunately I don't have access to my work computer, I'm just a user, not an administrator. Would have loved to have this machine running 24/7. Unfortunately, no such luck. Will try to talk to one of the ICT guys on a Friday with a beer, maybe I'll get access and install F@H on it!
Also, will look into the gpu folding this weekend with windhell om my iMac. I'm curious about this!
hey! yes an i7 iMac would be wonderful! are you running -bigadv units on it?
if you can get an i7 to fold at work, that'd be great also. but we don't push people to fold at work if they don't approve it.

If I understood correctly, the bigadv have to be done ASAP. I don't let it fold 24/7, just a couple of hours per day, so I probably won't make the deadline. Now I also have a job (P6701) that has to be finished in a couple of days that needs a lot of work. Already let the iMac on all day to get it finished on time. I can use the points, can pass two people if it's finished :D
It's good to be back, also see a lot of old names that I used to battle for a position. Especially with Issmit02, so let's see when I can overtake him!!

well yeah if you don't fold 24/7, you won't make the deadline. but i'm curious, why not let it fold all the time? you can still use the computer while its folding. i know some people worry with heat. but that shouldn't be a problem. you can always monitor the temps if you are worried.
but i'm glad you are back. we need as many members as possible right now

Speaking of bigadv's....I've got bigadv turned on my home built i7 rig (just as an experiment, I'm new the the whole scene) and I really hope I can meet my deadline. It's due in 2 days and 17 hours, but the ETA is 2 days 6 hours. This would be ok if I could let it run for 24/7, but unfortunately this is the computer in my bedroom....and it sounds like a jet engine :p.
That means I can only let it be off for 5.5 hours each night... I usually sleep about 7-8 hours a night.
So, do I choose sleep, or meeting my deadline?:p

so you're folding with the "macross" right? are you running windows?
EDIT: i see you are folding with it, and you are running windows. first question: which client did you download?
if you run -bigadv units, it will push your computer to the max. if you are willing to do that, you can meet the deadline and get the bonus points. to run the -bigadv units, you need the console client (the latest one).
my advice is to just start a new thread (since this is getting a little off topic, and it's a super long thread) about setting up your system. that way others will see what you are going thru, and others might decide to join in on the fun!

The team has stabilized, new guys, old guys still here albeit Folding a bit less. There are a handful of VERY strong teams behind us though and not a real fighting chance. I moved my computer into another room and am trying to be up 24/7 with an OC on my i7 920 to 4ghz. Right now, I am running advmeathods. I will start running Bigadvs in about a week after I get my return rate back up. I had a night a few days ago where my client got messed up and would loose the WU a few mins into folding and download a new one...did this multiple times so I hope my return rate wasn't screwed up too much. We shall see if I am getting bonus points after the deadlines for those units pass. If I am still getting them, count me in for some Bigadvs!

I have a 9800 GTX +, but haven't used it for folding for a while. I am back to using OS X full time because it seems to crash less while OC'ed. Plus, I don't really see THAT big of a need to use a GPU (although it would be really, really nice:p) since I started getting bonus points.

its so weird, current my imac screen will rewake after a few seconds of turning off (i have a hotkey to turn it into off mode) - but then it turns back on. the thing is though that its not even running. so i dont know.

you can use a little app called Shades, or something like that. It will put the contrast all the way down (first remember the hotkeys of this app! Trust me on this one!!) but haven't found anything to get the brightness all the way down or get the monitor to stay asleep...

I fired up the 6 core machine and it is working on a bigadv unit.
I suppose I might as well get the rest of the hardware going for awhile to see what we can do for team points. Maybe we can hit 4 grand for 7 day points, that would be cool.

wahts this mean?
(apart from the obvious)
Hi, my limited understanding is that this is normal for the smp client.
It occurs when one or more threads start to get desynchronized due to other processes taking CPU time, so it starts to reallocate/balance threads.
I think there is a slight performance hit having to do this, which is why it isn't on by default. However, it's better than having to wait for all threads to sync at the end.
If you run a system that doesn't have many other processes running you may see it getting most of the way through a unit before it has to enable it, whereas a heavily used system may trigger it straight away.
Hope that helps

Ok gotcha. I thought there might be a place to see other people's milestones like that certificate looking one on Stanford's site how it tells you the date and all that.
I've had a lot going on too with work and the remolding of my house on nights/weekends. I'll be back up at full capacity within the next week or two.

The cpu client is here (http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Download). If downloading the Windows client, make sure you get the smp version. If you put in an argument of
-smp
and it will utilize all cores.

don't know if anyone else will find this but it's just a warning
I uninstalled using the new uninstaller and then installed the new beta and when it started up, it wiped out my user and passkey and started folding under team 0.
of course, I didn't notice this had happened for a day...
will let this current 13-hour long WU finish up and then enter my info...
