Do I need a program to connect my video camera to my macbook?

Hey guys,

My video camera (JVC) has a USB port, when I connect the cord from the video camera to the macbook, it doesn't recognize it. I assume you can connect it to the computer this way since it has a USB port on the cam. The cam has firewire (which mac doesn't) and it charges from a dv connection.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Open up iMovie to see if it recognizes it.

Most cameras that have both firewire and USB ports need to use the firewire one for video: the USB one is for still shots/firmware updates only.

i tried... when i click import movie.. all it does it open up isight to take a pic of me.. with no options to change source

ive done a search... couldnt find a good result...

Been asked before: there are none. You need a firewire port. There was one cable that worked on Windows only using special drivers to allow some DV cams to connect over USB. That's it. It's not something you can just convert at a wire-level.
