One of the things that pisses me off about Windows is the missing apps that are actually usable. Mac OS X can play DVDs, has a great backup app ( Time Machine ) , often comes with iLife, etc. and so on...

I recently upgraded my MacBook to Snow kitty and installed Windows 7. I immediately was able to backup my new snow kittly install, but hated the backup app in Windows7. Oddly enough, I don't mind Windows 7.
After searching around, I decided on an app that gives Time Machine like backup to a disk that I kinda liked. The app started out as a bundled piece of software for GoVault, as reviewed on Tom's Hardware, , but I found the company that created the software has a version that works with any USB or hard disk.

If you go to datastor.com, you can get the software, and I found a coupon for half off for the desktop products. Use FRIENDLY#HM when you check out. It is legit and ok to use according to their support people.

I was able to get the version that does not directly backup Exchange or SQL for $25. I don't run either on my laptop.

Sorry for the spammy sound of this, but I am a long time user, and I do like to promote something I think was a pretty good deal. That is why I push Mac, even when I have to use Windows. I think this could make bootcamp users feel a little better about protecting thta one program they actually need in Windows.

Try Winclone. It's free and you can backup and restore your bootcamp partition within OS X. Works great. Used it to restore my Windows partition when I upgraded my MacBook's drive and resizing it is a snap.

I am not sure I would backup to the same disk. 🙂

Do you have a URL? I would like to take a look ( although I have given up $25 already for dataStor and like it so far )

I was looking for something like Time Machine where I can just pick a point in time and restore a folder or file system. I hate catalogs.

I like free, I like CCC but I also like to forget about doing the task if possible.

Not trying to be a downer, just honest questions. Still trying to figure out Windows7 and how to keep it from jumping in my way when I try to do anything. ( Pop Up Hell!! ) 😀

Thanks for the feedback. Looking for more programs that make Windows less painful.

You can dump your winclone image anywhere you want, including network drives, and you can even do incrementals.
