I like to use my iPhone as a timer and glance down at it occasionally as I'm doing something else. The problem is that it automatically shuts off after some time. I looked through all the settings and didn't find anything that might change this.

Please help!

Settings -> General -> Auto-Lock

It gives you the option of 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 minutes, or to never lock (lock = the screen turning itself off).

This was very helpful.

I had turned auto-lock to never and couldn't figure out why my phone wouldn't dim last night. I use it for an alarm, now I am back in business thanks to your useful post.
