Perhaps Apple should also offer a vehicle for selling your music purchased via the iTunes music store. Since they hold the DRM, they could perhaps change ownership to a different registered user for a small fee. They could even resolve payment by debiting and crediting the accounts of the users involved. A set price might be easier to use and manage than an auction system. That way you could simply select whichever songs you no longer want and then send them to an online used music store. As buyers purchased your listed songs your account would be credited. You could then use the credit to buy a few new songs.
This would greatly increase the value of downloaded music and each party benefits. Even record labels and artists would get the secondary benefits of retaining the inherent value of legal digital music and further encouraging consumers to use legal methods of downloading music.
