I have a Mac os 9.2.1 cd and wish to install it on my 800 mhz imac g4. The problem is that imac G4s only support os 9.2.2. How am I supposed to combine the 9.2.1 cd with the 9.2.2 update to make a 9.2.2 cd? how?:apple:

M9105LL/A according to everymac.com that model of imac g4 800 does not allow direct booting of os9. Only classic support. Opening the apps in osx under classic. The other 2 listed might but it doesn't say. If it does then your imac should have os 9 on one of the discs that came with your mac.

I cannot find your exact model on everymac.com. It appears that you have the 700 MHz model M8672LL/A, since all the 15" 800 MHz models came with 60 GB minimum (unless of course you replaced the hard disk with a smaller one later).

Your signature specifies that you are running Leopard. It is surprising that you got Leopard to run on a 700 MHz machine, but you won't be able to run Classic mode, because Leopard no longer supports Classic. But your original question was how to combine a retail 9.2.1 CD with the downloadable 9.2.2 update. I don't believe this is possible.

Your best plan is to find a set of software CDs made for your specific model iMac, something like this:

Good luck.

I don't think you can run OS9 directly, but you can run classic, so you can run almost any OS9 application. :D

I had the same problem so here is what I did.
Get a USB stick. I used an 8gb but it is way bigger than what you need. 512mb should be enough.
Format it for HFS, and install the os 9 drivers.
Insert your OS9 cd. Open the installer with classic. Install on the USB stick. Then install the update on the usb stick. I had to run the updates a couple of times. They seemed to get an error, mostly about accesing a file. I found that making sure all my programs, including OSX native ones had to be closed.
I made my stick this way starting with 9.04 all the way to 9.2.2.

When booting hold down option. It should find the stick in the boot options menu.

I have booted from the USB stick with one caveat. It enters OS9 but my video mode is messed up and the screen is scrambled. It looks like a video settings error, I can see the desktop and it looks like it booted fine.

For the record I have a G4 800 17 inch screen. I know it can boot OS9 because it booted a rescue cd with os 9 on it.

Neat idea there. And there is also sheap shaver for intel users.

OS9/OSX won't install on a USB stick from a PPC machine.

I thought about using sheepshaver on my Imac. Sheepshaver is supposed to run at native speeds on a PPC. It uses a pass through like qemu on an x86.

There is just something about being able to run classic on my machine that draws me to do it natively.

I think once I get the video sorted out I am going to do a separate partition on my HD for OS9.

it is possible to install your os9 on your imac g4 800
but first you need to repartition
1.partition (10gb) for leopard (cant boot into classic )
2.partition (10gb) for 10.3 panther
3.partition (10gb)for your os9 you dont need 9.2.2 as 9.1 is fine with panther
you can update later
once you`ve done that you can choose which os you want to boot from , in panther you can also use classic

that leaves you 10 gb rest where you could install tiger if you wish

you could make the partitions smaller and install cheetah, puma and jaguar too :D :D:D
