has anyone ever used the find my iphone with mobile me? how did it turn out?
with one of my friends losing their iphone recently, it's made me think what all i need to do to make sure i can find my phone should that happen to me. I have mobile me and the find my iphone works, but are there any other precautions that you guys are taking? sometimes it's location is pretty broad and not much of a help.
also- if someone swaps SIM cards (which is the case with my friend) does the find my iphone feature still work?

From what I read, it works well...

It works very well. With every iPhone/mm update it seems to get better too

It works better than one would think given that it is a basic web app. It takes up to 3min to find the phone and seems to find it within 10'-25' of where it is. Not bad at all.

If someone were to remove my sim card and put theirs in, the find my iphone feature wouldn't work anymore would it?

Probably not, but then it would be stolen if someone else put in a sim. Find my iPhone is not really about preventing theft. It's about finding your iPhone when you misplaced it. For example, there's no remote LOCK function.

If it was a theft deterrent, they would charge extra I bet. (Kind of like LoJack).

Question is - would a remote wipe work with a different sim?

My dad has had mobileme work wonders for him, although his phone has never been stolen. Just left in the garage or at work a couple times.

Yes there is:

not that i have had to use it, but i tested it and it gets within a 20 metre radius, although took a minute or so. i think if you remove the sim card it will still work because it works through GPS and not the cell towers. obviously the remote wipe i have not tried, but i presume it works and i sent it a message to see how quick it is, did it nearly instant.

Actually, I think it will work with any SIM card as long as your MM account is on the phone, dont quote me though. I would imagine that is off the phone, there is no link between MM and the phone....

I have tried using it with my iPhone in two separate locations and both times it found it within a minuet. I was quite impressed and am thankful for this feature. I owned an app called iHound that did something similar (prior to this feature). But it was no comparison to the works of mobileme.

I used it, and found it, mostly because I could send a text and sound to the phone.
