I just bought a D-link wireless router (DL-624+), it connects with iMac (wired) & iBook (802.b) & ADSL modem.

My question is :

1) How fast can i transfer files from iMac to iBook? Coz i got 0.5mb per second. Is that normal or i can make it faster?

2) How can i secure my wireless connection?

Thankz in advance.

The theoretical maximum speed of 802.11b wireless is 11Mb/s or about 1.3MB/s. But that is highly dependent on factors such as signal strength. Your 0.5MB/s is about as good as you're going to get unfortunately :(

For large file transfers, you should probably just use wired ethernet.

Yes, I agree with the previous post Wired Ethernet you can enjoy the speeds that your use to and will not have to worry about enabling your WEP Encryption and assigning MAC addresses to your router. I get pretty good file transfers with my LinksysWRT54GS. But nothing beats it when I connect directly, but I download a 100mb file in about 7min wirelessly. Hope that helps
