Hmmm...

I need help thinking through this...

I originally had 3.0.1 FW that was JB by redsn0w. Unlocked Carrier baseband (04.something).

Given the circumstance, I don't really need to unlock my iPhone, at least not until next year, so I decided to go ahead and BlackRa1n my iPhone.

Everything was successful.

Now..

I have 3.2.1 with Baseband 05.11.07. There is another carrier update that is asking me to update when I connect to iTunes but I haven't done so yet, I just keep cancelling.

The question is the following.

I plan to purchase an Macbook Pro next week. Although I don't need it, for completeness Pawnage of my iPhone, I would like to also unlock it.

So..

Theoretically, considering I have an ECID file with Saurik. (At least that's what Cydia tells me when I launched the application on 3.0.1).

Could I revert myself back to 3.0.1, revert baseband to 04.something and then use Pawnage to do everything over again but this time, keeping the ability to unlock?

You can't downgrade the baseband you'll just have to hope that an unlock comes out for the baseband that you have now.

^^^ +1 You're stuck if/until an unlock for the 05.11.07 baseband comes out.

Ahh, make sense.

Perhaps I'm also confused. Then what is the ECID file storing on Cydia about?

Theoretically, that allows you to downgrade the firmware. Like say, if you want to go back from 3.1.2 to 3.0. However, downgrading the firmware doesn't downgrade the baseband. So once you upgrade to 3.1.2, if you had your ECID stored, you can go back to 3.0 but your baseband would still be 05.11.07.

Ahh that makes perfect sense. Thanks, I just couldn't get my mind around it.
