Hi, I just spent ages downloading some cartoons from Limewire, only to find that none of the media players I have will play any of them. I already have windows media player, quicktime, mplayer and vlc. does this mean I have downloaded in vain, or can anyone tell me where I can find any more universal media players?

What file extension do they have? .avi? Try installing the 3ivx (http://www.3ivx.com/) codec for QuickTime.

It depends on a few things. The file extension will help us determine what codec is needed.

Sometimes, the files are corrupted. So the type of error message you get using Quicktime, etc. will help.

Dump QuickTime. There are much better media player for OS X such as MPlayer (http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/10784) or VLC (http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/5758).

And another thing, dont use limewire. Its sucks like hell. Try using Poisoned (http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/12351) or XFactor (http://www.xfactor.cc/). Or even better, use Bittorrent.

Or even better, use Bittorrent.For the 15,000th time, you can't dump QuickTime. It is an integral part of MacOS X. And as for the QuickTime player, just about the only formats that it can't play is Windows Media 9 and Real. You just need the proper codecs, which can be found with a simple Google search.

are you on Crack? "DUMP" Quicktime?

firstly, it's impossible, as mentioned above.

granted, you cna dump the program but Quicktime is still prevalent in the rest of the system.

and also, Quicktime is the best... especially the pro version. super-stable. super expandible. super functionality and reliability. great compatibility with the right codecs... what more can you want??

I agree that QuickTime is good for light video editing, and stuff, but 40% of the time, it won't play movies right, and I have to use VLC. I love QuickTime, it's just that sometimes, it crapps out on me.

Oh, and I refuse to install WMP 9 on my computer.

well, you are right... again, it's all about the codecs though...

to get the full experience... you really need WMP, RealOne, VLC and QT... these all serve a different purpose but essential for their respective file formats...


now, if only the respective companies would use CoreVideo in their next releases... we could hopefully see massive improvements in performance.

for ****s sake, i didnt mean dump as i delete. i friggin meant as in use as little as possible. even with all the right codecs qt stutters and hangs. vlc and mplayer dont do that. and whats with not being able to do fullscreen unless you buy qt-pro. thats just pathetic.

My QuickTime stops cold sometimes while I'm playing MP3s with it...I wonder if my external drive that's always connected has anything to do with the freezes? It always recovers, though...but it breaks up the song, which is HIGHLY annoying.
