I bought a Woodcrest Mac pro this morning. 2 2.66 GHz dual core Xeon's with a x1900XT graphics card.

A friend of mine bought a new Mac Pro over the weekend and his came with a GT120, he bought a 4870 in store, and installed it him self, so he has the GT120 laying around.

I was gonna get it from him and put it in my Mac Pro, I was wondering if it will actually work in my older Mac Pro.

I don't see a reason why it wouldn't, but its better to ask and make sure.

if he's your friend, why don't you just have him give the card to you and you can find out?

We are kinda separated by a few states. I wanted to make sure it would work before having him spend the time shipping it, and me spending the money to ship it.

From what I found, it officially only works in the 2009 Mac Pro but people have said it works in the 2008 Mac Pro. If you have a 2007 Mac Pro, I don't know if it will work.

Most likely a No-Go, due to the EFI-32/64 issue.

In fact , I am 99% confident that it won't work.

If it wont work, what are my graphic card upgrade options?

I know I can do a 3870, but I would like to have something that is openCL compatible.

I have heard people say that the 4870 is compatible with it.

OWC ran a test on it and it did not run in the MP1,1 and MP2,1. Check their blog if you want to read it from the horses mouth.

A flashed 4870 or an Apple original will work. Each version has some pros and cons. Both will need 2 slots and two PCIe power cables.
