I want my desktop to change at certain times during the day, so then I have a morning desktop, an evening desktop and a different desktop at night. Is there any way of doing this?

you might be able to write an apple script to do this.. and then use ical to run the different scripts at certain times every day.... but i'm no expert on applescripting...

If you go into "System Preferences..."->"Desktop & Screen Saver"->Desktop, you'll see at the bottom that you can change the picture every, say, hour. I think this is what unixkid was referring to. Now, assuming that you pick a folder to choose the desktops from, and assuming that you enter 24 desktops, 6 each (identical images but with different names) of morning, afternoon, evening, and night, then this should work.
Not the cleanest solution. But a start, perhaps.

The soloution of making it change on the hour, and having the same picture multiple times is your best bet.
Just make sure NOT to select the option to change the pics in a random order. If you have this OFF, they will change in the sequance shown in the window.
Look in Mac Help, if you need to know anything else.
