I live in Canada where there is no apple store. My trackpad has stopped working, and Apple Canada support told me to drive the the states North Dakota to get it fixed. I was wondering cant they just send me a mailer and I mail it in?

That's pretty much what they do if you call Applecare. Don't deal with the store, call Applecare directly at 1-800-SOS-APPL. I'm assuming that number will work for BC, if not, just check the website.
They'll mail you a foam-padded box with a return label in about a day, and have your machine back to you a few days later.

They did say that they could send a box to send it back, but they had to transfer me to the Canadian line who said they don't offer that solution yet so I am stuck with driving down to an apple service provider to get it fixed.

If you have to drive there, why don't they let you send it via courier. (i.e., let somebody else drive it for you). Don't you canucks know how to ship something across the border?

Yes, we do , but I just don't want to have to pay the shipping.
