Just got my new 3gs all jailbroken and from past experiences winterboard is an iphone killer in terms of memory and speed (even on 3gs) unless people can tell me otherwise?

Any way

What directories shall i ssh to in order to alter icons and other images when there are no winterboard theme folders?

Cheers

Any lag you experienced on a 2G/3G is irrelevant on the 3GS. Its just made for themeing.

Or you could do something nutty like try it out for yourself.

Manually replace the icon PNGs in each application folder. You will also need to replace the UI overlay files or you will end up with the Apple glow and shadow on top of some of your icons. You can't manually put a wallpaper behind your icons, so BossPaper has the least impact.

yeah, you can manually change icons, however you can't change the black background without winterboard.
having had a 2G and 3GS, lag with winterboard on the latter is not bad and hardly noticable. i have winterboard, categories, sbsettings, yourtube, and a few other programs downloaded and have 116mb available memory (although that fluctuates quite a bit).

I'll tell you otherwise. :)

I rarely had any lag on my 3G and my 3GS is flawless with Winterboard loaded. I do create my own theme's with sound packs, etc and it seems fine.

For info on the directories tho, try:
http://www.hackthatphone.com/3x/themes_with_winterboard.html

That site provided a lot of info for me when I created my themes. :)
