i'm trying to figure out the best strategy for importing my CDs into the iTunes library. what i have so far is jazz and classical in lossless and everything else at 192kbps AAC. i think that works but Apple is even selling stuff at 128 that still sounds decent if i'm ignorant of the full sound. it's slightly tricky, matching quality with capacity especially since my hard drive is only 40 i think and my ears are picky. what methods do other people have that seem to work?

I encode different genres of music with different bit rates. Generally live performances at higher bit rates as well.

it depends on the band and complexity of the song. For the Beatles and Pink Floyd all at 256 kbps. Rob Zombie and the Sex Pistols at 160.
