my kids $699 Dell XP laptop plays hulu, youtube flawlessly and my $1000 iBook can't. You would think our Macs, which are supposed to be the choice of media "artists" would be able to handle video better. Some one has to have a solution for crappy video streaming!

iBook 1.33
1.25 g ram
10.4.11

I am ready to throw the sucker at the wall!

Well, the secret is out, now you know Windows is actually better. You should dump that Mac and pick up one of those W7 Dells.

Your iBook G4 is roughly 5 years old, and Flash on Mac OS X doesn't perform as well as it does on Windows. But your iBook should do well at handling Quicktime video streams.

... and it's ridiculous to say an iBook G4 is a $1000 machine. Sure, it did cost $1000 five years ago when you first bought it, but it's not even worth $300 in 2009.

Lol iBooks are WAY out of date now. They're only worth $300 dollars now, if that. More like 100 or 200:D

Older macs aren't good with flash. Quicktime streams though should run well on it.:D

iBook 1.33GHz must be from 2005. Yes, you'd be lucky to get $250 for that. I think there is someone on this board looking for those specs, you should get in touch and sell it to him/her.

Upgrade to the new MacBook, even refurb. Find something that is $699 and it will handle streaming video just fine.

If you're comparing a $1000 computer from 5yrs ago to a $700 computer from this year/last year then you have nothing to be pissed at.

Technology advances...and yeah, that iBook isn't exactly worth $1000 nowadays ($250 TOPS I'd think). Flash for Windows on the other hand, will run just fine a few OS/CPU revisions back...you can thank Adobe for crapping the bed for Mac<-->Flash support/CPU utilization being piss poor.

Yeah technology advances very quickly, what was good 5 years ago is pretty useless for a lot of todays things, like streaming video...:(

though my iMac is 3 years old and it does everything I've ever wanted it to do:D

Sell your iBook on eBay or something, then get a MacBook, even if you get one of eBay for $1000 or 900 or something close to your kids computer;)

The blackberry 5790 is such a piece of **** compared to the iphone. It doesn't even work with youtube, and it cost more when I bought it. RIM just pisses me off so much.

Has to be one of the funniest comparisons/threads. iBook does everything well except for heavy online media of today. I bet the iBook was screaming fast 5 years ago. LOL

try the - ClickToFlash http://rentzsch.github.com/clicktoflash/ - plug in - works great for youtube - let's you open the vids in quicktime instead of the flash plug in. Really helps.
