Hi, quick question (I did a search, but didn't find a topic dealing with a similar enough question)?

Will an O2 PAYG iPhone, bought in the UK, work abroad, with a foreign SIM (speciffically, Czech Republic, where they also have iPhones on their O2)? The idea is to buy a phone here in the UK as a gift for someone living in Prague, CZ (it's possible to buy the iPhone there, but it's much more expensive).

I think the answer is probably no (at least not without jailbraking and/or unlocking, which isn't really an option as the person receiving the phone isn't very tech-savvy), but would appreciate a confirmation, and any other relevant tips or advice.

Thanks!

No it won't, it's locked to O2 UK

However, according to this page of Apple's, Czech Republic carriers all sell the iPhone factory unlocked: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937

You can probably order online for delivery in Czech Republic, the carriers all have an English option on their sites
