Will a 3rd gen iPod dock work with my 3G?

I was cleaning out my closet the other day and found the dock that came with my old school 3rd gen iPod. I thought it'd be worth a shot and plugged my 3G in. The radio nag screen came up but everything seems to be working OK. So does that mean I can use it without damaging the phone? Thanks.

The only thing to worry about is the support on the phone. The wiring will allow it to work just fine.

You will get a "charging is not supported by this accessory" error with a 3rd gen dock...the pinouts have changed since then. So yes it will physically fit but no, it won't do anything else.

Everything will work, it is just the "identifier" resistor is different, but Power and Data should work just fine.
