problem transfering music(priveleges issue)

hi,ok so im new to macbook.i ve transfered music to my mac via usb external hard drive no problem,but i also need to reverse this by putting music back onto my external hd.its not allowing me to do this,its saying i opeation cannot be completed as i dont have sufficient priveleges for some items! i have gone to desktop info to sharing and permissions and changed option to read /write and also changed the lock option on the bottom of this page. so help as i still cant transfer music back to my external hd?

im guessing no as it a couple of years old and i mainly use i with my old laptop windows xp.strange as it was ok putting the music folder on the mac but now cant transfer it back onto the external hd!
