Chronus vs. AppBackup

Hello,

I haven't seen much information comparing the two Cydia apps Chronus and AppBackup. From what I read, it seems like they both do the same thing. From experience, which backup app is better?

Never heard of or used Chronus, but see here for AppBackup vs PkgBackup (short answer is use Pkgbackup and stay well clear of AppBackup)

Pkgbackup does not backup applications data. AppBackup does.

Now, appbackup does not backup iPhone built-in apps data, such as SMS, etc. Chronus does that.

There is no complete backup solution. I use all three apps.

Note that appbackup and chronus backup the data to files created and stored on the phone, so you need to ssh the files out of the phone if you are going to restore the phone to a new firmware.

That thread is about AptBackup vs PkgBackup, not AppBackup. AppBackup is a fine program that never caused me any problems. AptBackup is a finicky program that I find useful in some circumstances but need to be handled with extreme caution. Too bad their names are so alike they keep getting confused with each other. Their functions are different too.

AppBackup - Backs up data for apps bought from the official iTunes App Store. Does not reinstall the apps themselves.
AptBackup - Backs up lists of jailbroken apps and repositories you have installed. When you restore, it attempts to redownload and reinstall everything on the backup list, but does not restore any settings or data.

I believe both of them do although you might not want to mention that you are using installous here.

Reading the PkgBackup describtion in Cydia it doesnt say anything about backing up game data :confused:

Installous apps are treated as App Store apps therefore PkgBackup would not apply to them, rather AppBackup or Chronus would back them up.
