iphone remote app-no control for itunes

hey so ive got an iphone 3G and i know this is a stupid question
and as of the last update of the remote app (just the basic remote that can control itunes and apple tv) i havent been able to actually change the song while using the remote. there does not seem to be a control function anhywhere, i dont know if the whole app has changed, and you can only request songs now, or am i just being ridiculously blind in not being able to find the controls. i use the remote with both a vista pc and an imac 10.5

I had the exact same problem. I could request songs on iTunes DJ but I couldn't just play any song I liked. All I did was select Add Library on my phone, got the four digit code, and entered it into iTunes on my computer. I know that it doesn't quite make sense. I had already entered in the code before and I was already connected but that's what I did and it cleared up the problem.
