Either they'll not mention the subject in Monday's finance results (announcement coming very soon) or they'll say "no new hardware until 2010".
As to an exact date, I've no idea!

That just sucks. Have you called? Are you giving you any kind of estimate at all?
I still don't expect anything until the 27th if all of these new products are true (imacs, mini, keyboard, mouse, & Macbook). If it is only the Mini and the iMac, then no event is necessary.

Well maybe Steve Jobs decided, hey, let's hold on to that dude's iMac, let's give him the new one when we release it, he'll totally love it since it's so damn awesome since we put so much great stuff in it for not even a lot of money!
Then it wouldn't be that bad. =)

Yeah I called and they said there is a delay on all iMacs and will email me when they have an update. It is truly rediculous and I am losing my patience with Apple.

They're clearly just building iMacs whenever they're ordered now. And will only build them for full price (Hence delayed edu store)

My guess is just computer updates...Macbook, Mini and iMac..Remember last March Apple updated the Mini, iMac and Mac Pro via silent update (no event). I don't think we'll see new mice or keyboards...Remember, that FCC stuff happens all the time and is usually months and years away from actually happening.
My vote is October 20 :-)

I don't think/hope that's a coincidence, together with the Windows 7 release, it would make sense for Apple to release potential refreshes on tuesday october 20th.
Maybe, as mentioned by others, Steve will say something about upcoming product refreshes during the conference call tomorrow.
.. Hopefully he won't say "no more new hardware in 09"
P.s. It would be so cool if something like a updated mouse stole the spotlight from Microsoft's newest OS mess :)

Well, Windows 7 isn't a mess, it's very good. No mouse or keyboard will steal the spotlight from Windows 7. Nothing is going to steal the spotlight from Windows 7.

I've been waiting too (for a replacement iMac for a troublesome early 2008 model). The order was processed on October 9 early in the morning. Same configuration as the earlier poster. Says shipping in 24 hours, yet they seem to have no stock. All I've got Apple to say is there is a "major delay" with the iMacs right now and that the information on that order update page is incorrect. So all we can really do is wait. I'm hoping that the wait will be over this Tuesday, and that we'll all get new models for our trouble. I personally would wait for weeks if they are bringing out a new model.

That weekend is a holiday one here in New Zealand (Labour Day), but I doubt we'll have any stock to buy even if anything is released this week.
Nothing is going to steal the spotlight from Windows 7.
Apple releasing a new dust cover for the iPod Shuffle could steal the spotlight from Windoze 7. ;)

The iMac is a primary product line: they aren't going to leave it non-updated for unusual periods of time. If it doesn't update Oct 20/27, it will probably be soon after.
And if it doesn't update by January, I'd have to assume the iMac is no longer a valuable computer in the Apple line-up... which is insane, since it is the affordable computer that isn't goofy-small or ridiculously huge and expensive.

Well they left it without update from April 2008 to March 2009..So I don't know if that point really is a valid one that Apple sees. Of course, I find it to be stupid, but that's how Apple operates.

Oct 27th seems to make the most sense. If they are supposed to have a new form factor ect from the rumors, then they will probably have some sort of keynote for it. In the past it's seemed like we hear about the invites the previous Thursday/Friday. So in this case, they can deflate MS twice... One by all the focus on the invites, then two on the following Tuesday showing they have new hardware that runs everything, including Win 7 better than MS devices.

There is not a chance in the world that Apple releases invites on Windows 7 release day. Not a chance. Nobody would care, it would be bush league of them and a joke.
Now, releasing updates on Tuesday or simply doing an invite this week for Oct. 27 would make no sense. I think we'll know by Tuesday.

Nah. I'm very much doubting there will be a media event for these updates. The rumors have only been speculating about a "thinner case," which isn't really enough of a redesign to warrant an event. I doubt we're going to see much more than a processor update and a very mine case tweak for the iMac and Mac Mini. And I'm also starting to doubt we'll see an update to the MacBook before January.
Secondly, there's nothing short of the release of an iPhone that cures cancer that will take any sort of shine away from the Windows 7 launch. I'm thinking Apple has planned to update the iMac on the 20th since this summer - long before they knew the Win 7 release date. And I somehow doubt they take the launch of a rival's OS into consideration when determining the date of a relatively minor product update.
The 20th is looking more and more likely, as an earlier poster mentioned that a bunch of promos end on the 19th.

Apple's ability to update their computers is of course partly reliant on other companies like Intel and NVIDIA to supply new chips that are worth the update ... if neither makes anything new for a year, Apple can't really update anything either (other than adding bigger hard drives and more RAM, changing to LED, etc).

I really hope it is this week, but more importantly, I hope it happens for the holiday season. It worked out really well for the MBP's last year. I still think it's gonna be the 27th or the Tuesday after that, but obviously the 20th would be nice. Has Apple ever had a case redesign and not had an event though? If new Macs are coming out, which seems likely, it would certainly be before the holiday season, and it would make sense to strategically try to take the wind out of Microsoft's Windows 7 release be diverting as much attention as possible away from it.
I think the most effective way to do that would be to launch the Macs shortly after the official release of Windows 7, since news tends to cover the latest events and forget about what happened a few days ago (yesterday's news).
Thus, I suspect that the Mac release would be later this week (Windows 7 comes out on Tuesday), or early next week.

So if you were Apple, had new Macs and you wanted to steal prospective customers from Microsoft and Windows 7 would you:
a) Wait until after Windows 7 was released to steal their press.
b) Release Macs just before Windows 7 was released so that customers had something new and exciting of yours to look at when they go shopping and check out Windows 7.
At first I was leaning toward "a", but "b" makes sense in my mind as well.

Apple is very, very good with their stock levels (at least their own, resellers usually aren't as good - I know a couple still selling aluminium 13" MacBooks, non-Pro models).
There are usually only two times when stock becomes unavailable: just after new products are announced if they underestimate the demand (e.g. the iPhone) and just before new products are announced (to purposely get rid of as much old stock as possible). If there is still "too much" old stock, then Apple often delays announcing or at least relasing new products - even if a product has to be announced (e.g. MacWorld event, which is partly why they are pulling out of those), they can delay availability for weeks.
