... <Gasp>
The poll has been updated.
For me, the battery life was the most critical flaw in the iPods.. 12 hours is good.. but really, they've increased it by only 2 hours. The G1 / G2 battery life was 10 hours.
Still behind the competition, but better. Fortunately, there is more to a product than its battery life.

Having more storage at the same price is a big advantage. Equally important is the 12 hour battery life.

Wow MacPolls are back  :D
Has to be the longer battery life for best new feature, but lower price is a definite big plus. These two will surely see this new iPods moving off the shelves fast, as they seem to cover the main two concerns expressed by prospective purchasers at the moment.

I wonder how big iPod's battery is compared to the others'. The iPod is pretty small, so I would imagine it has a smaller battery. Plus, they use track-pad technology which, i think, means the track pad must be constantly energized. Don't those things work by electrical field disruption?

more storage/same price helps allevieate some of those whiners that exist. plus, i just got one through cram and jam last week, so i'm going to return mine for my extra 5GB!

-Clickable scroll wheel, to the max my brothers and sisters. I think we will be seeing more of it too, in different ways, like further generations of our beloved clickable rodent to the right or left of the keyboard.
I hope so anyway. It's just too inventive and ergonomically comfortable to not see copies (from Apple as well as others) later on. Plus, it will reduce the milage our arms and wrists travel when using a mouse, by putting it on our finger.

well actually until they release the 60GB, that should say "same storage/cheaper price".... But I think everyone should be jumping for joy over the new battery life, because coming up from 8hours (more like 6) is a big jump!
BTW, did anyone notice the color of the ipod screen? On Apple's site, it's got much more of a blue hue to it... which is awesome!

I'm just glad the got rid of the awful four buttons that were above the scroll wheel. Simple is better and I now going to have a beautiful replacement for my dying 2Gen 10Gb. Ahhh....the world is balanced again..

I really don't think any of the new features are that exciting. But I chose battery life anyway, only because it will please some critics who say that Apple doesn't care about battery life.
I'm actually disappointed because now I have a big dilemma. Do I buy the 40 GB at the lower price, or wait in hopes of a 60 GB? I would have bought a 60 today had they released it, but now I'm almost afraid to wait if it would be 6 months away.

The base price of the iPod did not go down so this "lower price" stuff doesn't make much sense. I understand you are getting more for the same price but if you couldn't afford $299 yesterday you can't afford $299 today.
Oh yeah, the faster/slower playback is the best new feature especially if it keeps the pitch the same.

I dunno, I prefer the four buttons atop. Just seems akward that while adjusting the volume you may accidently press it to the next track or something. Course I never tried this feature, so can't say for sure, but I tend to press the track pad sorta hard to where it might be enough to accidently press the buttons. Just my opinion though.
I do think it was a smart move for Apple to lower the price.

How bout being able to charge it via USB. That's a new feature (stolen from the Mini) and one that will prove to be quite useful.

i voted for battery life...there was no way i was upgrading from my original iPod while i would get less. now that they've increased battery life (and ditched the buttons), i've ordered a 20!

The battery life. Though I'm actually not too stoked about this latest update. Most of it could have just been done with a software update on the G3s. I was waiting for this update before I decided between the original and mini iPods and this disappointing upgrade makes me start leaning towards the mini.

Gotta be the battery life, hands down! I must admit that I rarely find my iPod running out of juice, since I either always have it in the dock or charging in my car, but it definitely is a nice update!

I like all the new features. They are exactly what I was waiting for. Now I will buy one - a 40GB model. Time to retire my Minidisc player.

Apparently, somebody decided they didn't like us starting our own poll questions in the ADC/DVI thread? ;)
And I do like the click wheel, now if I every do get something bigger than the mini, it'll be easy to work with :)

I have one of the first ipods and I have noticed the battery does last as long as before, I know about the updates but they do not support the first genaration ipods, boo hoo. I would minded gettin a new one but then I would just have an extra ipod that would become an expansive small hard drive. but it does have that firewire built in and I like that becase I can use any firewire cord.
