I still have apple care,
guess its the airport card failing
Can i send it to apple or do i have to take it to an apple store?

What will there procedure be, new airport card, or new imac? :P

apple care runs out in a month or so

Call Apple and see if you have to go to the Apple Store or send it in. It's likely that they will just replace the airport card, but if there are other problems, then they just may replace the whole thing.

The inbuilt mic doesnt work either, would they bother replacing that?

If it is under warranty and there is no apparent user damage, they will replace everything that is failing.

Dunno what a previous owner has done, im hoping they just end up giving me a brand new one :P
