"Gentoo, we have a problem" -- horrible page load time and pathetic graphics...what the hell is that jaguar logo block supposed to be?
looks like a bad pacman.

It's a reskin of the Gentoo logo (http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/graphics.xml).

As a person who switched from Gentoo Linux to MacOS X, I'm really looking forward to messing with this. Fink is good and all, but it's no Portage.

Can anybody explain what this is supposed to be, and why I should want to replace fink with it?

first of all, it's not complete. don't use it unless you know what you are doing.

gentoo linux uses portage to install, optimize and maintain software so once it has a strong darwin incorporation it can be used to easily keep track of new software and update already installed software.

when I first heard about this project (a year or so ago) fink and opendarwin.org were part of it. I looked at the opendarwin site and it had no mention of gentoo--which confuses me.

anyway, once it (portage) is in a more useable state, it might replace or coincide with fink (and/or port from opendarwin?) to allow for more apps and personalization of the installation of them.
