copying the baseband from my 2g to my 3gs?

I have a jailbroken 2g on 3.0 that is also unlocked. My 3gs is running 3.1.2 and is not jailbroken. Is there a way for me to get the 2g baseband onto my 3gs to unlock the 3gs?

Is it crazy enough to work? I thought of it because people are able to save their basebands when upgrading to keep the phone unlockable.

They don't use the same chip, hence different basebands. End result, this won't work.
