I'm looking for a good, free, all-in-one media player for OS X. I mainly want to use it to play video files. It seems Quicktime can't play Divx files, which is pretty annoying. Does anyone know a player that will play just about every video format? If anyone knows how to make Quicktime play Divx then that would be awesome!

You can download plugins for quicktime (they go in the folder 'quicktime' under the Librarys. I have add such plugins as a Ogg Vorbis, DivX5, and 3ivX. There are lots more, just search for 'Quicktime + DivX (or what ever) + Plugin + Mac" or try this link: http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/

I have to agree there. I tend to use it as much or more than Quicktime for DivX content. It handles subtitles well and has a nice clean easy to use interface. There also are occasions in Quicktime (depending on encoding) that audio tracks lag behind the image, but Mplayer generally gets it right.

I like VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html), MPlayer has never worked for me....

I agree. VLC tends to play everything while MPlayer doesn't work with alot of stuff, and it's slow.

I have only the Mac to go by. On my first generation 2 GHz dual G5, MPlayer is superior by far. Every other revision, VLC audio develops a distinctly "tinny" sound. The sound quality of the audio in the most recent version is OK. However, there is a definite lag between the start of a clip and the start of its audio. After it starts, the audio is in sync with the video, but it does take its own time to start. By comparison, MPlayer's audio has no lag at all. And, the DivX codec for QuickTime works great.
