What are your needs, price range, etc. Or is this the: definitive buyer's thread.

I'll go with the latter. I definitely don't NEED an upgrade, but Apple always make me contemplate over and over again on the idea. Gosh, I am such a fangirl.

I feel like when we're all using Core h98 with 256GB of ram, the 27" will still be a half-way decent screen.

I have said this in another thread, but i have to admit, despite it's allure the 27" just seems far too big for my purposes and somewhat limited space

to me the 21.5 is more attractive http://macblog.***********/imgs/signature_SmileyFace.jpg

As someone who once had a 30" screen (had to sell it), it may seem too big at first, but once you have it, it's hard to go back. You're not just getting the bigger screen, you're also getting a bigger resolution with the 27".
Man, if LG were to release the 27" iMac monitor on its own, especially considering it has an IPS panel and is LED backlit, it'd be like $1300 to buy on its own.

Given that these are 16:9 instead of 16:10, does anyone know how much bigger the 27inch machines are when compared to the previous generation 24 inches? They might actually be pretty close in size.

How about performance? Since the baseline 27" and the step down 24" both have the same specs save the screen size - would there be a perfermance impact on the 27 as it tries to drive so many more pixels? I'd be curious to see.

Same here. 21.5" is big enough for me.
I currently use a Sony 20" (1600x1200) monitor... so it will be about the same. Just wider. About the same pixel density too, I guess.
And I just realized today that my father can buy the iMac through his company... so I'll get it 40% cheaper :D

Care to elaborate? Is it due to taxes/VAT I take it
