How many mice can I have on OSX?

On Windows you can have 2 pointer devices connected at once and easily switch between the two.

Can I do the same on OSX so I could have a Magic Mouse for regular use and my Microsoft X8 for gaming?

You can definitely have at least two mice.

I have a wired Mighty Mouse, a Logitech Cordless Optical TrackMan, and Wacom Intuos 3 graphing tablet (with mouse attachment) all hooked up to my MBP at the same time. I can use any of them to control the pointer on my screen at any time without having to disconnect them.

I am able to use both my Kensington mouse and my Logitech mouse at the same time. USB $ RF.

I thought it was more like 256 (but more) only I can't seem to find the number online anywhere...

I have two mice mostly - one for the day, and one for controlling VLC in bed. Why not!.
