Because upgrading to 8GB through Apple is 180 bucks, and on this other website you can buy 4GB ram for the last iMac model for 74 bucks. I understand the new model has 4 slots, so I could just get the stock 4GB model and then add another 4GB for a total of 8GB?

This is the ram I'm considering... Thanks :)

From what I've seen so far it does take the same, but judging how no one replied to my questions about mixing memory latency within the slots people here aren't that clued up on some ram issues.

...if you mix any latency or spped ram, as long as they are the same pin outs and fit they will work - just at the speed of the slowest sticks...

Wicked and wild.

I'm taking from that, that if I mix CL6/7 and CL8 of the same speed then I won't notice any difference. Hope that's the case as I'll then have a bad boy 12GB BEAST of a machine.
