Why do my .JPG's become pixelated??

So I must be doing something wrong. I've used Final Cut and Premier Pro and when I try to insert a JPG image and do a Ken Burns effect, it gets pixelated.

What is the right procedure to insert stills? Are they not supposed to be JPG's? Is there a setting I don't have right? Any help would be appreciated.

How pixelated, what is your output resolution? Almost any video format will have significantly lower resolution than a still photo.

Also what is the resolution of the jpg? Is it big enough to be blown up to 720X480? Is FCP having to blow up your picture to fit the screen (check the Motion tab to see)
