Hi

I have an iBook G4 (mid 2005) and the charger has broken (third one!!).

Apple don't have the replacement part. Does anyone have a recommendation for a durable replacement from another company?

Thanks.

I know Macally makes chargers for the iBooks. I'm not sure where to buy them since you are in the UK. Maybe a google search could help to find a supplier there?

Thanks. It seems I can buy the Macally one from Amazon in the UK, but the reviews on the Amazon US site contain a number of pretty negative comments.

Edit:

Further research reveals that the Macally charger doesn't work with iBook G4.

Strange, the online AppleStore still sells the Apple Portable Power Adapter 65 W, which is for iBook and PowerBook, in the Dutch store. Ships within 24H. I checked the UK store and they don't have them.

My iBook G4 has also gone through a fair few chargers. The last we bought was shipping from the UK and was really cheap (just a Google Shopping search) but the problem is, it's rubbish. If it looks plastically, avoid it.

Go for a reputable brand or an Apple one from OWC or Macally maybe. In UK, try www.2ndchancepc.co.uk too.

I have a macally one, which I use with my ibook G4 12" 800Mhz. It has worked fine since the apple one fritzed out. It says PS-AC4-UK on it, and looks like http://www.amazon.co.uk/Power-Adaptor-Powerbook-iBook-powercord/dp/B000FI4DAA/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1256468511&sr=8-6 it seems there's a newer one now though, which I guess you looked at? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Macally-AC-Power-Adaptor-Powerbook/dp/B000HDAAFU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1256468511&sr=8-1

Thanks for the suggestions.

I tried 2ndchancepc. They have a BTI charger. And it's UGLY!! But I guess I don't have many options and will have to compromise.

Thanks.

On the Macally website it says PS-AC4 only works with iBook G3 and PowerBook G4 now.
