Factory unlocked 3GS. Need I worry about basebands?

No because the phone will be unlocked forever, regardless of baseband. Go ahead and update.

You guessed right... now, jailbreaking.. well, that's a different story. Also, supplier not knowing what he sells.... hmmm I wonder...
 
Lol. Fair play I've been told. But it's not really my responsibility to understand the pros vs cons of each basebands. I sell factory unlocked, not jailbreak unlocked. I thought maybe basebands might gave some other impact on jailbreaking.

well, as of 3.1.2, you are fine. im sure you will be fine for future updates, but just keep in mind that you'll have to wait for them though.

Waiting until your question is answered on a forum is not the best business model for your customer/tech support.
